Movie News Round-Up (7 – 20 May)

Hey everyone, and happy Friday! There was a bit of a slow week following my last news post, so I’ve saved it all up with this weeks news for a double edition of movie news!

Hope you enjoy, and have a great weekend!

Black Widow going solo?

Fans have been calling for this since the word go, and after the directors of Civil War, the Russo brothers said they’d love to see a solo movie for Black Widow, Marvel’s boss, Kevin Feige also seemed keen to finally give the popular character her own movie. I am here for this. Black Widow is a great character, and Scarlett Johansson is easily a big enough star to carry a film on her own. I’m hoping it is now more a case of “when” rather than “if”.

Assassins Creed Trailer

I know very little about Assassin’s Creed, but the hugely popular games are getting a new movie adaptation with Michael Fassbender playing the lead. The trailer is pretty solid, it looks like there’s some great action, and I’m happy to watch Fassbender in anything! Looking forward to it!

Black Panther casting announcements

The hype was already real for the Black Panther solo movie following his appearance in Civil War, and now Marvel has added some real acting heavyweights to it’s cast. Joining Chadwick Boseman is Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan. Super on board with all of this! Nyong’o is amazing in everything she is in, and Jordan really proved what he had in Creed. With rumours now circulating that John Boyega could also be joining the cast, this movie is shaping up to be pretty special indeed!

T2 teaser

Very definitely a teaser, and not a trailer, here we get our first glimpse at the hotly anticipated Trainspotting 2. I’m still slightly sceptical about this follow-up, but with the original cast returning and Danny Boyle directing once again, it has the potential to be amazing. I shall reserve all judgement until the proper trailer! This teaser did serve the purpose of making me want to watch Trainspotting again though!!

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn getting spin off movie?

Suicide Squad hasn’t even hit cinemas yet, and already it is appearing highly likely that Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn in an “all girl” spin off movie. Based on the trailers, I’m probably going to love Robbie as Quinn, and whilst it might be slightly presumptuous to give her her own movie, the fans love this character, so I have no doubt it’ll be popular. Also the idea of a badass all-girl superhero movie sounds phenomenal.

Who you gonna call?

I’ve never known a film get quite this much hate ever since it was announced that it was happening. You can seek out all the negative internet comments in other places, but there’ll be none of that here! I will say, neither this trailer or the previous one made me laugh, which doesn’t bode too well, but I’ll reserve judgement for the movie. There’s been bad trailers for great movies before!

Daniel Craig no longer Bond

02_14222916_4397ab_2690396aLet’s face it, ever since Craig said he’d rather slit his wrists than play Bond again, this news has been on the cards, but this week, Daniel Craig confirmed that he would not be returning as Bond. The rumour mills are now turning, with Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Damian Lewis, and Tom Hardy being talked about to take on the role of 007. Personally I would’ve liked one more film out of Craig to wrap up the Blofeld storyline, but also understand why he would want to stand down. Watch this space, and hopefully soon we’ll find out who will be taking his place!
